The Professional Football League (PFL): Building Purpose, Power, and Ownership in Pro Football

Professional Football League (PFL) represents a bold reimagining of professional football—one rooted not only in competition, but in equity, integrity, and long-term community impact.

Founded on the belief that sport must serve as a force for positive change, PFL emerged from a critical moment in American sports culture. Inspired by the broader social-justice conversation sparked by Colin Kaepernick’s stand, the league was designed to offer athletes something rare in professional sports: a platform where excellence on the field and conviction off the field are both valued and protected.

Leadership at the Helm

PFL is led by Jeanette Jackson, Commissioner, whose leadership in football has spanned since 2017. Operating out of Raytown, Missouri, Commissioner Jackson oversees the development of what PFL defines not as an “alternative league,” but as a Black women-owned sports infrastructure system—one focused on ownership, transparency, and sustainability before competition ever takes the field.

Mission, Vision, and Purpose

At its core, PFL exists to correct a long-standing imbalance in American sports: Black cultural dominance without Black ownership or infrastructure control.

  • Mission: To provide athletes an alternative professional environment free from discrimination while showcasing the power of diversity through elite sports entertainment.

  • Vision: A transformed sports landscape where overlooked talent thrives regardless of background, delivering competition that unites communities nationwide.

  • Foundation: Leadership, Integrity, Respect, and Team Commitment—supported by full transparency in governance and operations.

Notably, PFL is intentionally methodical in its growth. There are currently no teams, no players, and no club members—by design. The league is prioritizing structure, ownership vetting, and systems before launch.

What Separates PFL

Unlike other professional leagues, PFL operates as a nonprofit, player-first organization. Its focus is not on shortcuts or rushed seasons, but on building a durable ecosystem that benefits athletes, families, and cities for decades.

The league’s first major public milestone will be the PFL Talent ID Camp, scheduled for March 27–29, 2026, which marks the official opening of its professional talent pipeline.

Athlete Development: On and Off the Field

PFL’s development framework is comprehensive:

On the Field

  • Elite coaching and mentorship from experienced professionals

  • Sports science, performance analytics, and customized training plans

  • Injury prevention, recovery protocols, and in-house medical support

Off the Field

  • Financial literacy, media training, and personal branding education

  • Mental-health resources and leadership development

  • Career transition planning and community engagement training

This dual focus ensures athletes leave PFL better prepared for life beyond football.

Community First, Always

Community involvement is not a side initiative—it is central to PFL’s identity.

Through its #AsWeRise initiative, PFL commits to:

  • Youth clinics and accessible football programming

  • Partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and local organizations

  • Food drives, literacy programs, and facility improvements

  • Mandatory community-service participation from players and staff

Looking ahead, PFL will launch a youth flag-football program in June 2026, creating a clear pathway from grassroots participation to professional opportunity.

What’s Next

Over the next 1–3 years, PFL plans to:

  • Launch regional combines and scouting pipelines

  • Award and empower franchise ownership groups

  • Debut its inaugural fall season

  • Expand to a 32-team national league footprint
